Joe and Beth Hooper escaped from the Atlanta rat race to Blue Ridge in 1980 with their five children. The children at that time ranged in age from 3 - 18. They bought a hundred acres with a small mountain lake and built a house with a hot tub. Friends and relations came almost every weekend to visit. Anywhere from 7 - 9 children running through the house, wet towels everywhere and dogs, cats, etc. made weekends very hectic. At this point Joe decided to build a cabin on the back of the property with a hot tub in it and so that family and friends would have a private place to stay when visiting. While he was building this cabin, a friend suggested that it could be rented on the weekends during the fall season. That was the beginning of "the last resort" cabins! Our trademark is family owned, and features hot tub cabins. At this time the family has more than 60 hot tub cabins on the 230 acre resort. In addition there are many privately owned cabins that were built by Joe and are managed by "the last resort."

Twenty three years later, the five children have all grown up. Three of the children remain at the resort.

James, the eldest son is raising his two children; he is a resident manager and is also the bookkeeper. On the side James is a mobile DJ.
